All the children come together in the dining room for meal time and this is a great opportunity for socialisation & another huge learning opportunity. Children learn about where our food comes from, develop healthy eating habits & good table manners. Children are encouraged to become independent and older children will help to set the table, to pour drinks and to serve snacks. This helps to build confidence and self-esteem. Younger toddlers will be encouraged to finger feed themselves solid food and will move on to using a spoon when ready. Children love to help and allowing them to get involved may encourage the fussy eater to enjoy their meals more. Toddlers & preschoolers will be involved in setting the table and clearing away, wiping down the tables etc after meals. This fosters independence and self-help skills and builds self confidence. Babies are fed on their own schedule according to their own routine and needs.

Since February 2014 “Little Dinners” supply dinners to Teach na nOige. Little Dinners specialise in providing schools & crèches with quality childrens meals, prepared to the highest nutritional & safety standards. Little Dinners are approved by the HSE and by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

Food is delivered chilled, in batches of varying sizes, made up for each day. No salt, sugar, artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives are added to Little Dinners.  Please see sample menu on Parents Noticeboard or click on to www.littledinners.ie/Menus

It is important to emphasise that, the convenience of having prepared meals delivered, in no way diminishes the need for proper hygienic practices at all times, in relation to storing, heating & serving of any food. All staff at Teach na nOige have completed Food Safety /HACCP Training.
